Testing and Other Modalities Dr. Breana Uses :
Laboratory Testing
Dr Breana uses a variety of types of tests. Stool tests, blood tests, saliva tests, urine tests and even cheek swabs for genetic testing.
Each patient requires a specific testing approach and also a sequenced approach to testing. Costs for tests vary from $40 to $550+. Tests are paid out of pocket by the patient since the majority of labs don’t bill insurance plans.
Often each patient will start with basic blood testing to determine if there are any biochemical imbalances. Correcting these imbalances is the foundation to improving the health of each patient. Other blood tests can determine if there are a variety of different pathogens in the body. Those pathogens could be bacterial, viral, parasitic, or fungal (molds and yeasts).
Saliva, urine and blood testing determines if there are imbalances in adrenal, ovarian, or testicular hormones. Dr Breana prefers to use saliva hormone testing as it gives an indication of what are the levels of hormones in the tissues (cells) of the body, not just in the blood compartment of the body.
Stool tests can be used to determine the presence of intestinal or stomach infections, beneficial bacterial levels, intestinal functions, irritable bowel syndrome and leaky gut syndrome. These tests are very sensitive to detect even subtle changes in the intestines.
Urine tests can determine hormone levels, heavy metal toxin levels, and other chemical toxins, like plastics, and petrochemical toxins.
Lifestyle Enhancement
An important part of optimal health. This focuses on preventing illnesses rather than treating illness later in life. There is always an assessment of family histories, disease patterns and risks for each individual. Dr Breana always strives to help each patient maintain a high activity level and quality of life as part of each treatment plan.
Women's Health & Hormone Balance
There are comprehensive assessments of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels via saliva or blood tests as discussed above. Dr Breana uses herbal, nutritional, dietary and natural (bio-identical) hormone replacement to achieve hormone balance in struggling women. Annual breast exams and pap smears are also provided as needed to all patients.
Clinical Nutrition
Laboratory assessments of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acid status provides an overall health picture allowing Dr Breana to see all sides of her patients heath, not just their area of chief complaint. Repairing problems in digestive function; increasing an individual's ability to absorb and utilize nutrients from foods eaten is vital to optimizing overall health through good nutrition.
Botanical Medicine
Dr Breana uses powerful medicine to treat, prevent and reverse symptoms. She uses a combination of ancient herbal knowledge and current scientific research. Her therapies come in the form of tea, tincture, capsules or topical preparations.
